Mr. Mertle Award of Excellence

Some time ago Art Vandelay wrote an excellent piece asking why black people aren’t playing baseball. The waning interest has translated onto the field with the declining number of black players in the league. In light of this, we decided to create the Mr. Mertle Award of Excellence. From this day forward this award will annually recognize the best black baseball player in Major League Baseball.
